| Safety analyses |
Safety analyses are failure assessments of actually existing or hypothetically assumed defects in constructions with high damage potential. Safety analyses are performed for (particularly nuclear) power plants, their components, respectively, as well as for air- and spacecrafts. Fracture mechanics and damage mechanics concepts are substantial here.
Especially for nuclear facilities, strict rules do exist for the performance of safety analyses, which usually are conducted under official supervision and assuming hypothetical loads. For the determination of the material properties of components of nuclear power plants, especially after several years of operation, concepts of damage mechanics are applied. |
