   Glass

Products of glass are manufactured in Germany industrially in large quantities.
The cut procedures, essentially scratching of the glass and bend breaking,
used here, make a complex rework necessary and frequently lead to defective

Drinking glasses, porcelain, tubing
laserseparately
components. The IWM therefore develops
procedures for the laser cutting of bottle glasses
and now also flat glasses by introducing of thermo
stresses which causes a plain cut surface. The
interfaces are rework-free and of a high quality.
Grinding, cleaning can be avoided this way
Numeric simulation is an important aid when
developing these procedures.
In the automotive sector bonded windshields of
group safety glass (VSG discs) glued into the
frame are basic elements and increase the rigidity
of the structure. For the numeric Crash simulation
on the basis of existing failure models (BRITTLE
CRACKING MODEL) we develop experimentally
verified procedures which describe the failure of
VSG windshields with sufficient accuracy.
