Bearing technologyThe purpose of the ongoing research activities at IWM is the development of advanced bearings, particularly for the food industry. Such bearings should operate without lubricants or be lubricated just by the transported material.
An important step towards this goal is the development of a hybrid bearing involving ceramic rollers (Si3N4, ZrO2) and coated races (100Cr6, AISI440). For design, evaluation and optimization of such components the numerical simulation plays an ever growing role.
