One important aspect is the profound competence regarding material related aspects through SimBAU's close link to the Fraunhofer IWM. On the basis of the well established interplay of experimental techniques and theoretical modelling IWM develops micro-structurally based material models for simulation. Especially the numerous experimental capabilities regarding specimen and component tests support the claim of SimBAU to provide valid assessments of component behavior. SimBAU is the portal for all component related simulation activities of IWM into industry.
SimBAU combines activities in the field of numerical simulation of the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials IWM in Freiburg and Halle and the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Materials Research IFAM in Bremen. Being active member of the action group "Numerical Simulation" SimBAU can rely on the broad knowledge and experience of Fraunhofer research. On the basis of joint analysis with industrial partners SimBAU offers the development of individual simulation solutions which help to reduce development times and costs.
SimBAU is partner of kompetenznetze.de. This alliance presents high-performance networks from 19 innovation fields and 26 regions. kompetenznetze.de is an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education and research, BMBF.
Having in mind the comprehensive networking of miscellaneous research activities in this field SimBAU complements parallel centres of competence for modelling of materials in Mainz and process simulation in Aachen.
